San Juan Capistrano History
San Juan Capistrano is rich in history and was originally founded in 1776 as the home for a mission established by Franciscan missionaries. San Juan Capistrano officially became a city in 1961 and as grown tremendously in the past 45 years.

With only 10,000 residents in 1974, the city has nearly quadrupled its population and today is home to over 36,000 people. Characterized by its meticulously maintained open spaces, San Juan Capistrano is among California´s most beautiful cities and continues to grow in popularity each year.
